Jessica was born in Sandusky, OH, but grew up in Punxsutawney, PA. As a kid she loved ballet, playing house with Bubba, and following Amy around. As she grew up she started cheerleading and became interested in science and math. After changing majors a couple times, she finished college with a degree in Biology.
Postponing optometry school for a year, she became an Americorps volunteer at Boys Hope Girls Hope, a non-profit organization that cares for adoolescents in Cleveland, OH. Early on during this year, she changed her mind about optometry school and also decided that she wanted to stay in Cleveland longer. She ended up applying to medical school in the summer of 2007 and stayed on at Boys Hope Girls Hope for another 6 months. During that time, she was accepted to Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and got the opportunity to become an au pair in Torino, Italy for her last 6 months before starting school.
She had an amazing time in Europe but was excited to start school when she got back to the US. She began medical school in Athens, OH, in Aug. 2008 and was also very blessed to meet some wonderful friends after moving to Athens. One of those friends was Adam! :)
Adam was born in Wheeling, WV, and grew up in uptown Fly, OH. He was born over 5 weeks premature, which many remember as the only time in his life that he was early for an appointment! He weighed 5 pounds, 12 ounces when born, and through a push for weight gain, at one month old he weighed...5 pounds, 12 ounces; he experiences a similar pattern today.
He developed a love for music at a young age, being introduced to the violin at the age of 4 and continuing to take lessons for the following 9 years. He then became interested in playing team sports, most notably football and basketball. He was part of the pioneer cross country team of his high school as a Senior, which led to a passion for distance running, to include successfully completing the Columbus Marathon the following year.
Adam graduated from The Ohio State University in March of 2006 with degrees in Criminology and Sociology. He began working as a background investigator for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in early 2007 through late 2008. He was led to Athens, Ohio while working as an investigator, where he lived for a brief 6 months. He realized he was not misplaced in Athens but merely redirected for a short period of time, as it was there that he met the love of his life in Jessica, leading to the beginning of the rest of their lives together. <3
We met at church on a Sunday night, the first Sunday that we had both gone to Blackburn Hill Church of Christ. Neither of us were really looking for someone to date at that time, but we became friends and soon started to like each other. Our friends probably noticed before we did that we were always talking and that one of us never left church or an event before the other one did. After a few weeks, we had our first date, seeing a performance of The Lion King in Columbus. We both knew early on that our relationship was special! We continued to spend time together, met each other's families, and then started to talk about our future.
