Indianpolis downtown... in front of Circle Center... that's where I first met her.
I reached earlier than expected and she was in a meeting in the office when I got down from the bus and called her. She said she will reach in half and hour or so. I waited and waited...and there she was... looking little flustered and tired after a day's work...
And now I hand over the narrative to her...
From Chitrita's journal
12th October, 2007... it was. Across the road, I first saw him. He had come to escort me to their Durga Puja at Chicago. He and his friend from the UIC , U Chicago and Northwestern were organizing the event for the first time. That was a weekend of togetherness and mirth, In next few months came in a few more visits to each other at Indy and Chicago. By then we had familiarized.
Incidentally it might sound like a slow brewing love story... reality is, it wasn't. Ours is a story of conspiration and the conspirators were our parents but then that was the best thing they ever conspired for. I knew his father for some time and our parents wanted things to settle between us but as any progressive minded people, they left the decision to us.
He did not sweep me of my feet. Initially he came across as a very reserved person. With time he made a place for himself and chose to stick for ever. Emotions followed slowly. I remember one night's confused call to him about the future of our relation, I also remember our long skype sessions which were mostly filled by silence through which lot of unsaid were spoken, but I don't even remember when exactly we proposed to each other. Tirtha says he remembers that one day, during a phone conversation I suddenly started referring him as my 'spouse'! Not even as fiancee... talk about double promotion :) One night, when I was at Chennai for office work, my cell phone got drained off and I could not be reached. And there he was ... calling his parents, calling my parents frantically... you know why? He just saw a report on the web that a mild earthquake was felt in Chennai area and he could not get me on phone. I, myself, totally oblivion to the incident, suddenly getting calls from our parents that somebody from across half of the globe have stirred up everyone hearing only about a mild tremor! Funny eh? And then there was another day... he was so busy in a call that I could not contact him after repeated tries.. and I started calling even his room-mates. Reciprocity of franatic calls! :)
Indeed as I look back the sequence of events look funny to me but his presence in my life feels good.
