Jarrod's parents were planning on coming down to Texas to celebrate Thanksgiving with us and to meet my parents. A week before Thanksgiving, it dawned on me that this would be an opportune time for Jarrod to propose. When I asked him, Jarrod made it more than clear that it was not happening. Not to mention that all of the stress added by the traveling and our families meeting for the first time removed any inkling I might have had.
We planned a dinner in downtown San Antonio for our parents to meet, and it could not have gonne better initially. The dinner was so enjoyable that we missed the river barge tour I wanted Jarrod's parents to see. We decided the next best thing would be to go to check out the ever-popular Alamo.
When we got there someone suggested that Jarrod and I take a picture together. We were standing there holding hands, which is odd for us, and he made a comment about my promise ring bothering his hand, he then got on his knee and proposed that he replace the promise ring with an engagement one.
Initially, I thought Jarrod was playing a cruel joke and didn't believe it was happening. Then when I saw the ring, I finally believed him. I was so excited that I left him hanging for the answer.
After I settled a moment, I said yes. I was sooooo happy for Jarrod and I, and also that our families could be there to share in our joy.

I had been contemplating asking Salina to marry me for a few months and started planning it in the summer time. I started by having a conversation with Mr. Polanco about how he went about asking Mrs. Polanco to marry him. He told me that he spoke to his parents, who then spoke to Mrs. Polanco's parents or their permission. Because my parents were coming to Texas, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use his method.
I set up a dinner where our families could meet in San Antonio, and made up an excuse for Salina, Sabrina, and I to leave so that our parents could talk. It took some selling by my parents, but eventually I was given the Polanco's blessing. =) The hardest part was over.
After dinner, we decided to walk to the Alamo. I remember having planned some romantic speech for Salina, but when faced with plopping down on my knee, that speech escaped me. I just stuck to the basics and got the answer I was hoping for. It was a memorable night.
