The Proposal

The story begins while we were living in Harrisburg, IL.  We discovered a small restaurant called Morello’s soon after it opened in 2007.  It soon became our favorite place and by the time we moved to Baldwin in the middle of 2008 it was our favorite spot in town and you could normally find us sitting at the bar on Friday nights, with Todd or Rachel bartending.  We spent Valentine’s Day 2008 in the same spot.

Now fast forward to 2009.  Jason and I went on a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico and while I was unpacking the bags I found his diamond trade-in and that led us to picking out my ring on vacation.  We got back from vacation on February 5th and I knew he had bought the ring but he said I had to “wait for it to be a surprise”.  When the ring was bought I was told him he wasn’t allowed to propose on cliché days as I thought it wouldn’t be a surprise.  So the week before Valentine’s Day I’d been bugging Jason about what we were doing and one day after work he was like, “I made reservations at Morello’s” which seemed logical enough because it was “our place”.

Well we showed up for our reservations and the bar was open so we just sat there.  Todd was bartending and then around five Rachel came in to wait the tables in the bar, which was a surprise because when we moved she had also moved to the east coast.  I made the comment that, “This would be the most perfect place because it’s our place and Rachel and Todd are here and all” and Jason responds, “Well you said the day was too cliché so unless you want to wait four hours for me to go home and get the ring its not happening.”  So we finished our meal and just sat and enjoyed the ambience of being back in our favorite spot.  We finally ordered dessert and there’s my ring on top of the cheesecake and then Jason got down on one knee and proposed it was perfect.  I was so shocked!  He said my face looked like a little kid, I was just so surprised.
