Jenna's Story

For those who don't know me...I was born and raised in Pennsylvania outside of Philladelphia. Growing up I always loved being outside.  I spent most of my time after school playing in the creek and woods near my house. My family jokes that I took in any living thing that needed help (including people).  After graduating high school I attended Albright College in Reading, PA and earned my bachelor's degree in Environmental Policy and Spanish; a dual major that I did not use too well. Although I still follow politics, I realized I did not want to be a politician or a lobbyist. I decided to go back to school to study Biology/Ecology. I moved to Gunnison, Colorado in 2002 to go to school at Western State College and enjoy the more open and unpopulated landscape.

John's Story

Hi Everybody,

I'll start from the beginning.  I cashed in my 15 minutes of fame the day I was born along with the rest of my litter mates; I was born a sextuplet. I grew up in suburbia outside of Denver, CO.  As a kid I skied in the winter, played outside in the summer and my favorite t.v. shows were Wild America and National Geographic.  Sometimes I would watch Bob Ross paint happy little trees.  I bought my first backpack when I was seventeen and became an instant outdoor junkie. Following graduation from Colorado State University with a B.S. degree I moved to Leadville, CO to teach outdoor education.  The work was intermittent so between teaching courses, I pounded nails, sold skis and climbed and skied as much as I could. By spending so much time outside I convinced myself that I wanted to learn and study more about wildlife and ecology.  So I moved to Gunnison, Colorado to start my path in becoming a Wildlife Biologist at Western State College.  While there I met a cute blue-eyed girl. I'm not sure if she liked me at first because it took four classes together before she would finally sit next to me.

Our Story

We met at Western State College in Colorado because we were both Biology majors. We didn't know at the time, but it was the first semester for both of us and we were both non-traditional, post-baccalaureate students. We had classes together over the course of a few semesters and became friends, but we got to know each other better when we both took Cell Biology. (I convinced John he needed to take that class to get into graduate school. Ha!) That same semester we both worked on an independent research project and shared a research lab at school.  At that time, we became really good friends but we never dated.  After that semester John graduated and moved to New Mexico for a job, but don't worry one of us is pretty good at keeping in touch. We talked on the phone every couple of months, but rarely saw each other.  A few years passed and I got a job in California while John got a graduate assistantship at the University of Wyoming.  Since we hadn't seen each other for quite some time, we planned a trip to meet up in Vegas, and then travel around to some National Parks including Zion N.P., Bryce Canyon N.P. and Grand Canyon N.P. I guess we both realized something that trip.
