Jenna's version

I knew before John proposed that he was going to propose, but I didn't know when.  John asked my dad for his approval at a New Year's Eve party we both attended with my parents.  When 12:00 approached everyone was wishing everyone else a Happy New Years. However, they were also saying to John and I "congratulations". I asked John why and he shrugged. After the third person, my mom's friend came over and once again said "congratulations". I gave her a confused look and she got the hint. She turned to John and questioned "You haven't asked her yet have you?". He replied "no". She walked away quickly with a horrified, embarrassed look on her face. Apparently John had told my mom, but my mom in all of her excitement had told her friends. I am not sure if it was the alcohol or the loud music but something got misconstrued. I didn't mind, I was thrilled. A few months passed. On Easter John and I went for a walk down by the Poudre River in Fort Collins, CO. Like usual he was looking at birds and I was looking in the stream.  I was kneeling down turning over some rocks when I heard John say in an excited voice "Look what I have!". I turned around expecting him to be holding a rock with a large stonefly on it, but instead he was kneeling with a ring in his hand. I was in shock and was so excited, I almost pushed him into the stream in my disbelief. I said yes of course and was in a daze for days.

John's version

So on New Years Eve I asked Jenna's Dad a pretty important question, he said yes and it has lead to a pretty funny New Years Eve story.  Jenna tells it well above.  I knew that Jenna wanted her Grandmother's wedding ring so I had it fit with a sparkly, blue sapphire,  just like she wanted.  When I finally got the ring back from the jeweler a few months had passed.  On my next weekend visit to see Jenna I decided to ask her the question.  Because she wanted to marry on a mountain top, I wanted to ask her on a mountian summit.  Unfortunately the forecast called for afternoon rain, so instead we went for a walk at a local nature area where she tried to push me into the river before answering "yes".
