Vulcan, Michigan

On US-2 in Vulcan, 10 miles east of Iron Mountain. Guided underground mine tours by train, through 2,600 feet of underground shafts to see the reality of iron mining. Largest rock shop in the Upper Michigan. Group rates and tours by appointment. Hours: 9AM to 5PM daily Memorial Day through October 15.
*Make sure to bring a jacket...it's chilly in the mine!!
Park Ave., North off East A St., Iron Mountain, Michigan
An abandoned mine shaft, with a consistent temperature of 40 degrees. A specially designed cage allows the bats to come and go, but keeps all else out of the shaft! It the second largest known colony of hibernating bats in North America. They leave the mine in late April and return in September, making this the only viewing times. Parking lot, walking path, benches, and informational plaques. FREE!
Located off US-2/141 on the Pine Mountain Road, Iron Mountain, Michigan
The "King of Hills" is a 123.5 meter ski slide, the world's highest artificial ski jump. The scaffold is 186 ft. high, the length of the slide is 381 ft. The height of the landing hill is 349 ft. and the length of entire run is 1,440 ft. Estimated speed at take off from end of scaffold is 55 to 60 miles per hour, landing is 65 miles per hour. National and International Jumps are held each year during the month of February.
Piers Gorge - Norway
The most challenging section of whitewater in the Midwest, the Menominee River plummets down a 10 foot waterfall and tumbles wildly through canyon walls, forming powerful hydraulics and huge standing waves. For expert kayakers and rafters. A nature trail offers great views of the falls, perfect for hikers, camera bugs and rock hounds. Take US-8 off US-2 in Norway and go 2 miles south. Hiking & Biking Trails - Here are some trails in the area for hiking or biking.
2 miles east of US 2, 1 mile north on Upper Pine Creek Rd. 7, 2 and 1 mile loops. Groomed cross-county ski trail also.
West off US-2, end of "A" St. 4 loops totaling 3.5 km. Easy to difficult paths. Groomed cross-county ski trail also.
Walk is located at Lake Antoine Park just north of Iron Mtn.
Just off US-8 in Norway offers a view of the gorge and white water rafting. 2 miles.
