It was more of a decision than a formal proposal, but that doesn't make it any less special.
In typical Kell & Jas style, getting my engagement ring couldn't have gone less to plan!
First I was running late because after numerous attempts both Friday night and Saturday morning, I just could not get my nails right without smudging the polish. The main issue was that I'd broken a nail on my left hand which ruined the look. So I'm running around at the last minute buying stick on nails because I want to look beautiful.
On the drive up to Kings Park we got EVERY red light, then driving up the main st of the cbd we got roadworks. We get up to Kings Park and the carpark I intended to use was blocked off so we had to park up the road a bit. We found a path and started walking towards my favourite bit, the banksia garden. When we're nearly there and crossing the grassy bit of the botanical garden we get a security guard come over and tell us off because this whole area is out-of-bounds because they're setting up for a concert. I'm borderline frantic/hysterical by this point and Jas starts an exasperated discussion with the security guard over making sure gates are shut and signs up etc whilst he's trying to usher us out of there. Then I blurt out we're trying to get to the banksia garden (this dork doesn't even know he's standing in front of it) and he's like 'It's off limits, go" so I reply "Can we just go in there for 5 minutes so he can give me my engagement ring?!" The guy let us thankfully.
So anyway he let us but they've been replanting the beds and there's gates everywhere but we managed to find a nice banksia tree and we hugged and he said some nice things and handed me the box. I didn't make him go down on one knee (even tho I would've liked him to) because he has bad joints he gave me the ring and we kissed and the ring is gorgeous...but silly me picked the wrong size so it's huge and fell off!
Anyway by this time we're super late for lunch so we have to race back to the car and drive to the casino. I booked us into their posh new restaurant which was recently voted as the most romantic in Perth. I'm not terribly romantic so I can't really vouch for that but the food was awesome!!
They brought us yummy bread and olives and watermelon syrup to start and we ordered some fabulous chicken and avocado sushi for entree. for mains I had this fancy fish called trevalla in a lemon buttery sauce with crushed postato and capers and olives and tomato. Jas had pork belly and prawns in some kind of smoky sauce. I don't know what the sauce was but I had a taste and it had so many layers of flavour. it was really fantastic. I'm not a pork fan either, the smell usually makes me queasy but I had a taste of this and it was divine! Dessert was a must of course. He had lemon creme brulee with blood orange sorbet and I had this cakey thing with mango & strawberry salsa.
After lunch I was broke (doh). We sung by the shops to try and find something to keep my ring in place. No luck and most jewellers advised against using the clips but I wasn't ready to part with my new ring so soon (plus the girls at work are anxious to see it). I remembered I had one at home so went home and got that. Then we had to get up into the Swan Valley for the wedding ceremony of my best friend from back in year 8 and 9.
She had her old minister from when she was a kid and the poor guy was getting on a bit. He kept loosing his place during the vows so we're all tittering away and the bride is trying so hard to keep it together but she and her groom just ended up in exasperated giggles in the end. First the minister asked her if she'd take him as her wife, then the minister asked about 4 times if she'd take the groom as her husband instead of asking him if he'd take her etc. It was so funny but sad at the same time. I felt for the minister! Then they were to release butterflies but the damn things must have been so traumatised by being in the box thay they didn't want to come out. She's wacking the lid trying to get them off and they flew onto a guest near me who started freaking out. Man it was funny.
We had to leave pretty soon after that, raced home and got changed again and did Jas' hair because we had to head off up to Kalamunda for my friend Tammy's birthday party. It was a dress up party at the old (haunted) pub. I wore my new 50s dress and we made Jas up as a rock star. I forgot to put the eyeliner on him but we did his hair and nails and he looked super hot. Had a lot of fun but I was exhausted by 9pm and we came home.
So that was our big day.
