Mary Daws Ferreira - Bridesmaid
Mary is one of Tony’s sisters. Veronica has gotten the chance to get to know Mary through trips to Hornby Island, the beautiful rustic island where the Daws family has a summer cabin, and through many family gatherings. Mary married her husband Mike (who is a mechanic for BC ferries) just over a year ago in beautiful Hawaii, a perfect location as they are avid scuba divers and love the outdoors. Mary is a massage therapist, reiki master and a holistic health advisor.
Frances Daws - Bridesmaid
Frances is Tony’s younger sister. We have had the pleasure of being able to travel many times with Frances, first in Peru, then throughout Scotland when she came to visit us, and then around Barcelona as a weekend break while she was living & working in England. She has a strong tie to her English background as she spent a couple years living in Tisbury, a small town near where her mom grew up and where she met her boyfriend Tom. Frances takes after her very artistic parents as she a very talented artist and is currently finishing up her Bachelors in painting and drawing at Emily Carr.
Alex Boyd - Bridesmaid
Alex and Veronica have known each other for 17 years since Veronica’s family moved next door and Alex invited her over for a big snowball fight which started a wonderful friendship that has carried through all these years full of late night chats, swimming, and generally getting into trouble! Tony got to know Alex when she came to visit us in Glasgow and we spent a weekend visiting the coos in a nearby town. Alex is currently doing her paralegal degree and has just adopted the cutest puppy, Storm, which are keeping her very busy.
Negin Mirriahi - Bridesmaid
Veronica met Negin in a summer camp just before grade 1 and was delighted when she walked into class on the first day of school to find Negin was also in her class! They became very close in elementary school spending many lunches at each other’s houses (mmm pickles and macaroni & cheese!) and enjoying their play dates. Tony met Negin in first year university through his friends and spent many breaks between classes hanging out in the aquatic centre. Negin is currently doing her Doctorate in Education with a focus on distance education and is working at UBC as a course designer for the Faculty of Arts. She is also getting married this summer to her wonderful fiancé, Kuljeet, and we are very excited to be a part of their day!
Ben Daws - Best Man
Ben is the youngest of Tony’s siblings and being the youngest you can always count on Ben to be around during special events. We are honored that he will be Tony’s best man. Ben enjoys drawing, retro video games (yay Mario!) and Japanese manga. He works 2-3 part time jobs including working at the same Choices as Mary.
Diego Solimano - Groomsman
Diego is Veronica’s brother. He has a love for soccer, hockey and travelling. He spent two years living in Australia and he travelled through parts of South East Asia while completing his Law Degree. He is currently an articled student working at a litigation law firm and is doing very well, playing a key role in many interesting and motivating cases. He is currently living above a movie theatre in downtown Vancouver and is loving the busy atmosphere and the constant smell of popcorn! We are very excited that he will be a part of the wedding party.
Rafael Solimano - Groomsman
Rafael is Veronica's youngest brother. He has a passion for all sports namely soccer, skiing, and swimming which he takes part in both as a participant and a coach. In the winter you can usually find him about to throw himself down a double black diamond and in the summer you can find him biking for hours to and from work or the pool or to do the Grouse Grind – he is seriously fit! It comes to no surprise that Rafael is about to complete his Masters of Physical Therapy and is hoping to specialize in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Like the other members of the family, Rafael loves travelling and has just added Europe to his list of places he’s been and is already thinking of new places to explore.
Mike Bridges - Groomsman
Mike and Tony began their friendship in Grade 9 by hunting down and blowing each other to smithereens! They first started talking after realizing they had a common interest in the game Doom 2, one of the first first-person shooters. After going through the outdoor education program, Trek, together, they both got into hiking. This eventually led to the two of them into the pristine areas of the Stein Valley, lost, bleeding, and stumbling down a freezing-cold glacier-fed stream in their bare feet that was taking them no where. They of course survived this, but barely! Later, in early university, they led a bunch of us back through the beautiful Stein, where Veronica began to get to know Mike better; This time they were quite a bit more prepared and we had virtually no near-death experiences! Mike is now living in Los Angeles with his beautiful wife Sarah, a talented horseback rider and science department head at Santa Monica High School. He is currently working on his PhD in biophysical chemistry at UCLA and is making world-class discoveries! Every summer, when they come back for a visit, we spend a fun-filled weekend together in Whistler… but still wish they lived closer :)
Neville Uitdenbosch - Groomsman
Neville and Veronica met when they were 17 through mutual friends and realized how well they got along through summer camping trips. Tony later met Neville in early university and became close through hikes, camping trips and later through their mutual interest in photography – going on photography outings together to find that perfect shot. Neville moved to Ottawa, Ontario just over a year ago with his lovely wife Jen and their amazing 3 year old son, Cooper. Neville makes a wonderful father and although we miss having their family here in Vancouver we are happy to have gotten the chance to get to know both Jen and Cooper before they moved out East. Neville has developed into an extremely talented photographer and has now started up his own business (www.nevilleblack.com) specializing in boudoir, weddings, and capturing moments in day to day life. We are very excited to have them back here in Vancouver for our wedding!
Sean McIsaac - Groomsman
Sean and Tony met in grade 8 at a mutual friend’s house in a friendly wrestling match. After that first meeting, which didn’t end so well with one of them going into a piano (sigh), they had scattered encounters throughout highschool. It wasn’t until early university (the same time that Veronica met Sean) that they realized just how much they had in common and how well they got along. Over the years we have had many adventures together with our favourite memories being from various hikes, sushi/movie/drink nights, and whistler trips. Sean has successfully completed his first year of Medical School in Syndey, Australia and is loving living in the land of sun and surf and where just about anything can kill you! We hope that his four years go by fast so we can have him back in Vancouver for more adventures :)
