Post Wedding Retreat

Hornby Island

After the wedding, we plan on relaxing on Hornby Island, one of the northern Gulf Islands (just off the coast of Vancouver Island). This is the small island where Tony spent all his summers with his family while growing up.  Whenever possible they still head to their place near Grassy Point to get away from the city to escape into nature. Tony and Veronica try to get up there once a year and have many great memories from the various trips. It is a gorgeous serene rustic island with amazing scenery, sealife, and some of the most beautiful sunsets we have seen!

Dates: Monday July 5 to Sunday July 11, 2010

Anyone interested in joining us for part or all of the trip is more than welcome! There is a lot to do on this island  (walking, hiking, beach, biking, kayaking, sailing, scuba diving) and we would love to have people join us!  Please let us know if you are interested.

Our personal website has a few pictures of Hornby from some of our trip there: http://daws.ca/Journal/Trips/Canada/Hornby-Island,-BC

Because the Hornby is small there is limited accommodation and it typically fills up fast. So, if you are interested please look for accomodation early!  There are various options for all budgets from camping to staying at a B&B to to renting a summer home to staying at an all inclusive resort.

How to get to Hornby:

There are several options to get here, the cheapest being an ~5hour trip via car/ferry (about $100 round trip per person, quite a bit cheaper if you have more people in your car):

We recommend you take the 1.5 hour ferry from Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) to Departure Bay (Nanaimo), drive about 1hour to Buckley Bay. Take a 10minute ferry to Denman Island, drive 10minutes across the island, then take another 10minute ferry from Denman Island to Hornby Island.

Exact ferry info (prices/schedules ect) can be found on the BC Ferries Website: http://www.bcferries.com/
