I first met Aly and James at a Bridal show last June…..We kept in touch through facebook and email occasionally, as I was desperately (ok…I wasn’t THAT desperate) waiting for them to set a wedding date, but what I didn’t know is that they weren’t officially engaged yet! Flash forward to about a month ago, and James proposed!!! I had a few giveaways for sessions on my fan page and they started entering them…and then BAM, they won that last one! I was so excited because I just love these two. The love they share is so easily noticable and infectious. They truly are so perfect togther, it’s hard not to feel happy when you are around them.
The way they make each other laugh so easily is beautiful. I have seen a couple laugh more….they weren’t nervous at all and they were cracking jokes left and right, which in turn, made me laugh my pants off (no, they didn’t literally fall off! ha). I had a complete blast shooting them and just as much fun editing the photos after.
It’s sometimes hard to look at a photo and remember what the couple was saying to each other, but these two….it was so easy! They are so much fun, so beautiful, and truly such amazing and sweet people. I feel so completely honored to know them and now call them friends. They are planning on getting married next September up in Pittsburgh (her hometown) and I can’t wait to be there for that!
Facet you should know: Aly is a HUUUUUGE Pittsburgh Steelers (football) fan and so am I. They wore the Steelers jerseys in part of their session, and I actually wore mine as I was shooting them (totally wish I had a photo of that now…but alas, I do not!)……I love when couple’s do something different and the jersey’s were perfect for them! ok…end fact.
Thank you both for your sweet words for me, your kind spirits, your wonderful beauty and making me laugh the whole evening! <3

Their smiles are just amazing…..

I love these two images so much!

These two may also be favorites….its so hard to choose! I just love their love!
Really though….I think the one above is my favorite favorite!
Now…Get ready for some Steeler Awesomeness!

Oh yea…you can totally still look amazing in jerseys!

Funny thing: I told them to stand on the corners of the wall, and peek around sort of…and they just were like “Are you on crack?!” They totally thought I was being silly…but no, it’s me, I meant it…..;)

<3 you guys! You are amazing and I can’t wait to see you both again soon!
P.S- We are scheduling sessions for late April (2 slots left) and June as of right now, so if you want some kick- butt portraits like these, shoot us an email. Next 2 weeks (until April 15th) we have 50% off our session fees too!

So over the course of the last month or two, I have had a formspring account and people can go on there and ask questions pertaining to my business, or personal questions to get to know me. So I am going to post some of the questions here too with my answers, and anything else people may have asked me over the last few months that I think everyone reading this should know. Why?! Because, as most photographers/vendors will tell you, personality of the person you are hiring to work for you on one of the most important days of your life….is just as important as what they’re offering and the price they are offering it for! True story! You want to get along with the person well…after all, you are with them the whole day. What they do, and how they do it can affect you and it’s important to be comfortable with the people working with you that day!
Sometimes, as my dad would say, I can be overly honest on here….as if I am giving away TOO much. Because I am a daughter and my natural reaction being so, is to disagree with him because he is my parent….but I do believe someone can give away TOO much on their blog/facebook/twitter/myspace or any other social media outlet. There is a fine line between being a bit too personal/open, and having some tact. Usually, I choose to ride that fine line, because well, that’s how I roll. HAHA
So, today, I am going to choose to go with the latter and have a bit of tact when giving away who I am….or at least try. That’s good, right? Trying?
With that being said, here are some of the wonderful questions people have been asking and my answers to them!
Q: What photo-editing software do you use regularly and which is your favorite/can’t live without?
A: I use Lightroom and Photoshop CS 4. I usually do my sorting and grouping through lightroom…minor tweaks and batch processing and then in Photoshop I do more extensive work if something needs it. I don’t really like to spend anything more than 2 minutes on a picture so I try to keep it simple. I don’t know that I could live without either!
Q:Have you ever been published in print or online?
A: Actually, I have been published in both. About a year ago, before I started my business I was published in a magazine called The Successful Contractor, and I was published this summer in Bridal Guide Magazine. I have been featured on both OneWed.com several times over this last year and WeddingChicks.com just 2 weeks ago. I have also been photos featured with articles on PerfectWeddingGuide.com, Bridalguide.com, and Everylastdetailblog.com.
Q: Where is your dream vacation?
A: Currently, my dream vacation is to go to South Africa to see/be on a real safari….I could die 100% happy if nothing else happened after that. haha
Q: How did you and your husband meet?
A: We actually met in 6th grade when we both had the same home room and math/english teachers. We hung with 2 totally different types of people and he was super quiet and I was, well…not. We met again in 10th grade Biology class when we sat 2 rows from one another. I developed a crush on his friend, and my best friend who sat next to me as well, developed a crush on him (my now, husband). A few weeks passed and so did the crushes…then I got to know him, but he had a girlfriend…so I stayed friends and let things just happen as they were meant to. Eventually, when we were allowed to pick our partners every few weeks, he and I ended up next to each other. Months ensued of making fun of each other, playing silly jokes on one another, and flirting (it was innocent, I swear!). He broke up with his girlfriend and a few months later, he asked me out after we had gotten done playing soccer in my front yard. It was so cute and I was so nervous as he was saying it….and well, 9 years later…here we are. Married for almost 3.5 years now
Q: How many photos do you take at a wedding? and at a portrait session? How many do the clients get?
A: At a typical 8 hour wedding, I would take anywhere from 1200-1700 images. I like to be selective when I shoot (mostly in just the details and getting ready stages), so I tend not to go over 1700 in 1 event. My average in a 6-7 hour day (which is average for me) is about 1400. Out of those images, I range from 550-800 images that go onto the clients DVD in the end….which really is a lot. You never really know how much 600 images is until you start sifting through them.
Q: What do you do to recharge your batteries and stay creative?
A: When things get busy and I know I need to unwind, or when I get downtime, I try to just get away. If a weekend isn’t available, then I try to take a break at the beach, go outside and relax and read, head to a theme park….anywhere where work isn’t at my fingertips. If I am home and I try to unwind, I usually almost always go back to “work”….so I try and remove myself from the temptation. I love what I do, but we all need some time to be inspired and refreshed too, and no one can blame us for that
. I just love getting away, or heading somewhere where I can think but relax at the same time! It’s important to still be you and to be 100% all the time!
Q: What sports do you like to watch? play?
A: To play…soccer, football, volleyball
To watch: soccer, football, volleyball and pretty much anything in the winter olympics.
Q:How do you know when the right time is to start your business?
A: Oh jeeze, it really depends on a few factors:
1.) are you financially stable enough to start your business at the time you want to? Do you have money saved and ready to be put into your business?
2.) Are you mentally and physically ready? Do you have support? Are you motivated and ambitious? Are you thick enough skinned? and if not…are you ready to learn how to be?
For me, it was about jumping in. Luckily, my husband is the main income provider right now and I was able to do things on the side and with other photographers to learn. I worked part time for Lockhead at the Space Center and was only there a few months before photography picked up so much that I wasn’t able to focus on both things at once anymore….so I jumped in full force. Quit my job and took this on to a whole new level. I am lucky and fortunate to be able to learn, have support, and really focus on this aspect without being too financially drained. When I first started though, there was a lot of times when I wasn’t sure because it takes a lot of devotion, money, and a lot of time…so if you’re ready for that then go for it!
I have never looked back!
Q: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
A: hmmm probably Chocolate chip, but its gotta be the big flaky pieces that you get in every bite…not the barely there pieces.
Q: How do you tell a client no if you feel like they are asking for too much, or just aren’t the right match?
A: Nicely. If I feel like a client isn’t a right match for me, and this has happened once or twice, I just explain to them that they may better by going with so and so instead because I feel like that is more their style/match for them. Most of them greatly respect you being honest. I know if I were in their shoes, I would want that from someone. If they are asking for too much, I tell them that there is a better option for their budget, or that per my contract/regulations for my own personal business that things can’t work like that because of x,y, and z. I try to be as nice as possible. Have never had to go crazy
Hope that helps! If you have any more, please comment to this blog and ask them!!! Thanks guys!
