We didn’t plan on going to the actual 2012 JSOH Air Show at Andrews Air Force Base, but we decided on a whim to see what we could see from my office parking lot. We managed to catch a glimpse of the Blue Angels’ amazing aero acrobatics!  I didn’t have the big camera with me so my iPhone 4 did just fine for a smartphone. Here is the video I shot and edited on my iPhone using the iMovie app, plus some stills from the video itself.

ASSOCIATE SHOOTER WITH MOSHE ZUSMAN | CHARLESTON, SC WEDDING 2012-05-21

I had an absolute blast working with my friends Moshe Zusman, Noah Hayes and Becca Watkins covering Lauren and Jeff’s wedding in beautiful Charleston, SC.. Nothing’s better than working with a good team of professionals where we know our role and responsibilities and execute our shots.  Noah’s main focus was video so I am very much looking forward to seeing that.  Becca is an awesome shooter and extremely proficient with lighting setups.  And of course, Moshe lead the team through the weekend creating a pleasant experience for us and of course the couple and their guests.

Moshe posted a blog of some photos from the wedding, including a few of mine.  As a second or associate shooter, I typically share usage rights with the primary, but respect the fact that it was their gig and his ownership of the client and their images.  Most primary shooters let me post photos on my blog, but that’s as far as it goes.  Fine by me!  After several years of shooting weddings on my own, it is quite nice to let go of the reigns and enjoy shooting for others.

My job was to shoot whatever Moshe and/or the others might not be shooting.  In most cases I focus on details, scenery, guests and cocktail hour.  Be sure to check out Moshe’s complete post with photos.  Here are some of my shots that Moshe put on his blog that I borrowed to share here.  Plus I threw in some behind-the-scenes shots of them working.  If you’re a bride looking to hire a wedding photographer, check out Moshe’s work.  And there’s always the chance he’ll assemble this team of photo hooligans to do the job!  Enjoy!

WHEN SOMETHING ENDS, SOMETHING NEW BEGINS 2012-05-02

This news may come as a surprise to some of you, but I am no longer working full time as a photographer.  I have discreetly made the transition from a full time photographer to a full time day jobber as an instructor at a private security training academy where my main focus will be on firearms safety and training.  For those that do not know or recall, I have a law enforcement background and work experience that made this job a good fit for me.  Don’t worry, I have not given up photography completely.  I still remain plugged into the industry by remaining connected and relevant as possible to my network of professionals and friends.  The ever-changing and increasingly challenging photography industry is now something I can enjoy without the long hours, financial challenges, and… hate to say it… drama.  I may take on a few photo-related jobs though, such as second shooting for my wedding photography friends, or covering an Indy race like the Baltimore Grand Prix.  But I am excited about moving forward into a new beginning as another chapter ends.  I am happy with my decision and doing what’s best for me and my family.

I hope to share a little bit about what I do now in the future, but the information will be limited due to my non-disclosure/non-compete agreement with my employer.  Plus, this still IS a photo blog so more photos of my personal adventures and second shooting photos will be coming so stay tuned!  I just shot a Charleston, SC wedding with my friends Moshe, Noah and Becca and will get some samples here soon.

On that note, my friends at Think Tank Photo are giving away a free laptop bag (among other free gifts to choose from that will be listed at checkout) with your roller bag purchase!  Those guys are awesome and the bags are incredible as you know.   Their rollers are tough, well designed and thought out.  They are travel proven and come with the companies “No Rhetoric Warranty”.   All of their rollers have three levels of security – TSA approved combination locks, front laptop and cable lock, and back cable and lock for securing to a fixed object.  They have the highest grade materials including all fabric exterior treated with DWR (underside fabric is coated with PU for superior water resistance), 1680D ballistic nylon, abrasion resistant YKK RC Fuse zippers, custom designed extra tall skid places, replaceable in-line skate wheels, antique nickel plated metal hardware, nylon webbing, and 3-ply bonded nylon thread.

If you’re looking to buy a roller, now is a great time!
