Anyway, today’s wedding photo tip is: GREAT MAKEUP MAKES FOR GREAT PHOTOS!
Okay, this tip is for the bride, not the groom. On your wedding day, you want to look beautiful right? So many brides either wear little or no makeup or go a little over board with the mascara and eye liner. While you may look good with these options, you could look absolutely beautiful with a little attention to your makeup. A photograph seems to lessen the effects of makeup. The minimalist look translates into looking like no makeup. Using eye liner and mascara only sometimes results in a startling contrast between the face and the eyes which might not be your most attractive look.
Professionally applied makeup, with the intention of having your photos done is the best way to go. If you are having your maekup professionally applied make sure to tell them you want to look good for your photos. If that is not an option, then you should look up Evening makeup ideas online. You might think the makeup is a little too much, but it will not translate that way in your photos. Remember, your wedding day is probably something you have thought about and planned for a long time and it is absolutely necessary to you to look your most romantic, beautiful best!
One more thing about makeup- Try to avoid glitter. Both the bride and bridesmaids should not go for the glitter makeup look. The one biggest problem photographers have with glitter is that when we use a flash, either the large studio lights I use for your formals or the on-camera flashes I use for the buld of the day, is that each small piece of glitter reflects these lights and it sometimes looks like you have thousand of small white dots on your skin. Not an attractive look!

STAY AWAY FROM THE SUN AND EXCESIVE TANNING!
Most engagement photo sessions and weddings happen during the warmer, sunnier months of the year. While being outdoors, whether for work or play, is great, having a sunburn or worse yet having peeling skin does not make for great photographs!
Working as a wedding photographer for the last several years in the Midwest and now the mid-south, many of my grooms and some brides work outside on a farm or some other outside job. Many in the agricultural and construction businesses wear sunglasses while getting either burnt or tanned throughout the summer causing a very red or very tanned face and bright white circles around the eyes in the shape of their sunglasses. This look and peeling skin is almost impossible to correct in photoshop. So for you outdoor guys and gals, plan ahead and wear sunscreen while outside for a couple of months before the wedding so your face is one consistent natural color!
Tanning is another problem area for wedding photos. While dark exotic skin can be sexy, it almost never translates well in formal portraits. Rely on your natural skin tone and great makeup to look your best!
(more...)With the wedding season getting started for 2012, I thought it would be a great idea to post some tips for the bride and groom about how to get the most from their wedding photos. So this is the first in a series of tips we have compiled through out our years of shooting hundreds of weddings.
TIP # 1 – ALLOW ENOUGH TIME FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY INVESTMENT TO PAY OFF
Long after the nervousness of the ”big walk” down the aisle fades, the taste of the catered food slips away, the excitement, love and overpowering feelings of your wedding day goes into long term memory what is it that will bring that day and those memories flooding back into the present? Your wedding photographs!
Especially in times of a poor economy, the investment you make in your wedding photography is important. Not only because it might be one of the more expensive parts of your wedding budget, but because many times it is not treated with the importance it deserves as the only real, tangible product from this wondrous day, well that is, aside from the fact that you are now married which is really the goal for the day anyway!
During the excitement of getting married and the strong desire to share this day with your guests many couples want to just “get the photos over with” so they can get to the reception as quickly as possible. As a wedding photographer who has been at more weddings than most wedding couples, I know how important it is to capture the emotions and details of your wedding day so you can have those memories forever.
Even though my wife and I are very skilled at getting the formal shots at a wedding done quickly and efficiently there is almost never enough time set aside after the ceremony for us to slow things down a bit and get the bride and groom to take a deep breath and relax! We want to make sure that each wedding couple gets the best photos possible, ones that catch the love between them that is just pouring out of them.
During our talks with the bride and/or groom months before the wedding we attempt to explain to them how important this time after the ceremony is but as the wedding day approaches and the excitement and nerves build, it is hard for them to overcome their emotions and take the time to really focus on capturing their love for each other.
So TIP#1 is for the bride and groom to write down in their wedding day schedule how much their photos will mean to them months and years after the wedding. To remember to include in their written schedule that time to relax right after the ceremony and devote some time for just the two of them to show how much they love each other on this hectic, exciting and one of a kind day!
