We've all heard the Old English rhyme, "Something olde, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in her shoe...." Every bride I have known has always made sure to follow these rules. The symbolism behind the rhyme is quite simple. Something old represents the continuity of life. Something new represents the couple's optimism for their future life together. Something borrowed represents borrowed happiness from a happily married family member. Something blue represents purity, fidelity and love. In the US, the father of the bride places a penny in her shoe to bring the new couple fortune. (more...)

Princess Wedding Centerpiece 2007-11-16

If you are looking for a great candle light centerpiece for a large table, look no further. This one you can create yourself for very little money and the result is spectacular! My sister used this centerpiece at her wedding reception in October of this year. Follow these steps to get a similar centerpiece for your upcoming party or reception:

1. Place eight rectangular mirrors in two rows slid together. Four mirrors in each row.
2. Place a clear glass three tier cake stand in the center of the mirrors.
3. Place a large hurricane on the top tier and clear glass votives on the lower tiers.
4. Place 2 large hurricanes on the sides of the cake stand. One on each side.
5. Place an assortment of clear glass candle holders inside the perimeter of the mirror base.
6. Place white candles in all of your candle holders.
7. Place clear glass pebbles or plastic mirrored disks around the candle holders, on the mirrors, and on the cake stand.
8. Weave a strand or wire of clear glass beading or white pearl beading around the cakestand layers and/or around the candle holders on the mirrors.
9. Weave white tulle throughout the centerpiece around the candle holders and cakestand. Be extra careful to make sure none of the beading or tulle is over any candle holders where it can catch fire.
10. When the time is right, light your candles and enjoy a wonderful display of reflected candle light.

How to Reply to RSVP 2009-04-21

I have received many questions about "how to reply to RSVP". If you have received a Response Card included with your invitation, you should fill out the card and return it in the envelope provided. Many RSVP cards today ask for more information than traditionally requested. You should fill out your name on the line provided, check acceptance or decline line, give the total number attending with you, and if asked you should give your meal preferences for all attending. If there are 5 total in your party and 3 want the glazed salmon and 2 want the vegetarian meal, then you would include the numbers on the lines by each meal choice.

If you have an invitation that asks for RSVP, but there is no response card included, you should call to give your response information or send a short note to the return address. I hope this post helps you to feel more sure of how to respond when asked for RSVP. (more...)
