I love this Engagement Session! You know the saying “they don’t make ‘em like the used to”? Every time I see the buildings downtown I think of that saying. That is why I was so excited when Jennifer and Edward picked this location for their Engagement Session. The city was a perfect backdrop and also had a lot of meaning to Jen and Ed since they both work, and live, downtown. Some of the great locations Jennifer and Edward picked were Los Angeles City Hall, MOCA and Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels. Plus, while walking around the city, they found this beautiful memorial wall at the Los Angeles Police Department, which ultimately led to one of our favorite images of 2011 (the last picture on this blog post). Hope you all love this engagement shoot as much as I do!

We have so many amazing wedding albums that have been coming in for our couples that we can’t wait to share. Here is a beautiful Modern wedding album from Audrey and Gregory’s Orange County wedding. Both venues, St. Denis Church in Diamond Bar and Summit House in Fullerton were the perfect backdrops for their wedding. I love how the church is featured on the unique stair-step page. Plus, the simplicity of the black and white cover compliments the rest of the album wonderfully. Enjoy this little peek of Audrey and Gregory’s Hand Crafted Modern Album!

I’m very excited to finally be sharing Paola + Miguel’s gorgeous Long Beach wedding. Adam had the pleasure of doing a really unique Engagement Session with Paola and Miguel a few months before their wedding in Joshua Tree (to see their Engagement Session on our blog click here). And, their wedding was just as unique and special.
With the help of their good friend and wedding planner, Megumi Kaminaga, Paola and Miguel went with a Latin theme for their wedding. The day started at the Hotel Maya where Adam got some absolutely beautiful Bridal Portraits of Paola. She looked radiant in her wedding dress (which is still one of my favorites I’ve ever seen on a bride). The ceremony took place at St. Anthony Catholic Church where, instead of an organ or other wedding music staple, they had a mariachi band for the service. It was fantastic! Lastly, the reception took place at the Museum of Latin American Art (or MOLAA), which is such a cool, colorful wedding venue. The party started early and went late into the night with a second mariachi band during the cocktail hour and a live band during the reception that was perfect for dancing.

In our line of work, we’re so fortunate to be part of many different cultural variations of the wedding tradition. It’s always an honor when a couple trusts us to document this special day in their lives, despite the ceremony being performed in another language, or unfamiliar traditions. Our job is to observe and creatively capture and tell a couple’s story, and it’s even more fun and exciting when we’re experiencing something unique and new to us. Thank you, Paola and Miguel for the opportunity.

For dessert, guests were treated to some of Paola’s favorite Mexican sweet breads and hot chocolate. Not only was it delicious, but it looked great, too. I just love the desert-themed box that held the guests’ table numbers (and later, my hot chocolate). =)

Nicole and Rob’s Modern Hand Crafted album is a thing of beauty. It perfectly showcases their Skirball Cultural Center wedding photography. Wait until you see their chuppah, ceremony decor, and the way they had the Skirball Center’s Ahmanson Ballroom lit for their wedding reception. Stunning!

The sequence they chose to feature on the cover of their wedding album is really fun. After the ceremony, Nicole was getting tired of holding her bouquet, so I asked her if she wanted to throw it at me. She was happy to. (What does that say about me?) First try and she NAILED me with the flowers. I love her reaction of initial shock followed by pure celebration. (By the way, sorry about that Mrs. B’s Flowers – the florals were amazing and definitely didn’t deserve the abuse!) Here’s a photo of the cover, and some other details of their gorgeous album:
