Hans Ericsson Photography

Hans Ericsson is a Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist offering wedding photography services to the Baltimore and Washington D.C. metro regions.

Hans Ericsson is a Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist whose work has appeared on the front pages of the New York Times, the Washington Post and in other renowned newspapers and magazines around the world.

Hans was born and raised in northern Sweden and moved to the United States in 1997 where he attended Clark University and graduated Summa cum Laude with a Master’s degree in history.

To balance the time spent leafing through dusty history volumes in library archives, Hans took up photography as a hobby which then led to an internship at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. In 1999 the photo staff at the T&G were runners up for the Pulitzer Prize in photography for their coverage of a warehouse fire where six local firefighters perished.

Hans’ experiences at the T&G sparked a passion for photojournalism. After graduation he completed internships at two other newspapers before accepting a part-time staff position at Patuxent Publishing in Columbia, MD. In addition to receiving many individual awards, Hans and the rest of the photo staff won the National Press Photographer’s Association’s regional photo competition multiple years in a row. In 2005 the photo staff was awarded “Best Use of Photography” in the prestigious nationwide Best of Photojournalism competition.

At the same time, Hans also worked as a freelance photographer in Washington D.C. for the Washington Post, the Associated Press, Reuters and others. In this capacity, he covered national and international news on Capitol Hill and in the nation’s capital. In 2006, Hans was part of the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Pulitzer Prize winning team where he helped uncover the bribery scandal of San Diego congressman Duke Cunningham [R-Ca.].

In 2003 Hans created Hans Ericsson Photography which provided wedding photojournalism services in the greater Washington D.C. area. In 2006, after three very busy years, with over 150 satisfied brides and grooms, Hans decided to take a sabbatical with his wife (and their cat) to go sailing on their small boat in the Caribbean. After two wonderful years on the water Hans Ericsson Photography is back in business serving the Washington D.C. and Baltimore Metro areas.
