B&W images work well in the Winter 2012-01-06

Have you considered looking thru your camera’s menu options to see if you can take photos directly in black and white instead of color? Well lots of cameras have the option for you to shoot in B&W. It’s called Monochrome. It’s usually found under the shooting menu (some cameras however only offer it after you shot the photo, achieved thru the retouch menu). It’s a cool concept and winter is the perfect time to try it out. Pull out your composition skills and see what great images you can take. Look for leading lines by drawing your viewer into your photo. It’s always good to have a main subject that your line(s) can lead the viewer to. Try out other composition rules as well. I love to look for shadow and light when it comes to shooting B&W. I also find when there is snow on the ground, that’s a great time to shoot in B&W mode. Have fun!

Have a fun filled Photo Christmas! 2011-12-17

Have you wondered how to take great pics of your Christmas tree? There’s 2 ways to do it! Photographing on a tripod with long exposures and a lower ISO is usually recommended for best results. However if you find yourself without a tripod wanting to take pictures at a friends house, brace yourself and turn on your Vibration Reduction or use a coffee table to help stablize your image. Your next option is to use the highest ISO available with your VR on.

A fun project is to set your shutter speed to low settings such as 2-15 seconds, set your ISO at 100-400 and zoom the lens barrell during the exposure. Also moving the camera in circles and up and down motion can create some very unique patterns. Give it a Whirl!!!

If you’d like to try these techniques out on Christmas lights outside this time of year, we have a Holiday Light Workshop scheduled for Dec. 20th from 6:00-8:00 pm that you can sign up for and these techniques will be tried and explained for you. Join me as we photograph beautiful lights in and around beautiful Bucks County. 6:00-8:00 pm. Instructor Kathy Peoples will teach you what settings work best for your camera and also give some great tips for holiday light photos. If you don’t own a tripod, one can be provided for you. Beginners Photoshop Elements & CS5:
Learn photoshop’s menus, options and tools, crop and resize your images, create beautiful black and white images, and learn how to colorize only parts of your image for an artistic look. You will have a full understanding of how to create layers, use control keys to make effects, transform photos, adjust all levels and then how to flatten the layers to save your image in various formats.

Kathy will show you how to make general enhancements, special effects and create collages. Once you have mastered Photoshop, the capabilities are endless! Must bring your own computer. PC and Macs are taught. Limited class size for individual attention!
