As seen published on the Front Page inside of Naples Daily News:
I am a self taught photographer. Let’s just get that one out of the way. I did not attend a fancy school for it nor did I shadow a big wig photographer.
It was my drive, determination and passion that got me into this world. I had always been considered an art nut. I started drawing at the early age of 13 and by 16 was selling portraits of people for extra cash.
I dove into the wedding industry head first. I had an overwhelming addiction to the industry. I loved photographing the different angles that love had on a wedding day. To see the look a mother gives her daughter on the wedding day can take your breath away and then to turn around and see how the groom looks at his new bride can make your heart skip a beat. I am in love with wedding photography and I will shout it to the world.
When I first decided I wanted to photograph weddings, I knew it would be hard. You have to gain a bride’s trust and prove that you are the person to photograph one of their most precious days. I guess it was a natural for me because immediately after my first wedding, I was being swarmed with phone calls and e-mails. By summer of 2008, I had experience in more than a dozen weddings and was already booked throughout 2010. I had fellow photographers who were in the industry for 10+ years, asking me how in the world I was booking so far in advance.
2009 was a great second year in business thus far. I won my first award with the elite WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) in the Emotion category and was busier than ever.
I continue to love what I do; it is an addiction for me. As soon as I am done with one wedding, I am yearning for another. Those that know me well would say that I never stop talking about the business of weddings and wedding photography. I actually speak my own language of photography. Although it is starting to get complicated when I am trying to order my favorite beverage at the local Starbucks. I don’t think they get it.
I tell all of my brides and those who ask me what makes me different in this industry that it is my love for not only the work I do but the joy my pictures bring to my newlywed couples. I am always going above and beyond to make others happy and I don’t charge extra for that. You gain a friend and a photographer on your wedding day. I love helping people, making them smile, and showing others how beautiful they are inside and out. This industry allows me to do all of that.
Now with 2010 looking even busier than 2009, I am excited as to what the future brings for Maria Angela Photography (www.maria-angela.com) as well as my husband and I.
We have added a new branch onto the business. We help unfortunate brides who have hired the wrong photographer in the past by fixing and enhancing their photos for a price tag that is the cheapest in the industry. You shouldn’t have to “settle” with your wedding photos, they should be emotionally provoking...in a good way. We also do all of our album designs in house as well as our Web site design. I have so much creativity that I could not possibly outsource. We are blessed to be able to do what we love and continue to thank God every day.
