Simple. Real. Unobtrusive.
My goal is to tell a story. Blending together backgrounds in fine art and graphic design, storytelling is a critical part of my work, and I view the art of photography as painting with film, as if I were pursuing the idea of a painting instead of a photograph.
My images are not so much created deliberately but rather found through selectivity; people and their environment need little embellishment – they are by nature dramatic. To select and frame subject matter precisely for the purpose of drama and storytelling is one step in giving my work a classic and hopefully timeless quality.
Why did I pick up a camera in the first place? Years ago, late on a cold and clear winter’s day, restless after having moved back to the midwest from New York City, I borrowed my father’s camera. I turned it skyward on a Willow Tree and discovered a new way of seeing the world. I fell in love with photography.
