Three Tips on Selecting the Best Wedding Cake

· Book early, as soon as you have a confirmed date/location you’ll know whether the caterer can or should provide your wedding cake.  Try to book your wedding cake at least 3-6 months in advance.

If you are working within a specific budget, you will have more time to shop around and your cake designer will have time to come up with ideas in order to give you a  ‘wow’ within your budget.

· For the outside of the cake consider the overall mood or theme for your wedding and the level of formality.  Do you want something casual, colorful, eclectic, dramatic, romantic, ornate, elegant? 

When you meet your cake designer, bring photos that communicate your vision for your special day, a picture is worth a thousand words.

· For the inside of the cake, there are three major routes to choose from:1 traditional—like a British styled fruit cake or an American vanilla cake, 2 your favorite flavors or 3 something that compliments the menu since desert will be the last course served to your guests.  We often recommend unique flavor combinations that are not too edgy but will definitely let you and your guests know that the cake is part of a special occasion. 

Also, take into account food allergies that your beloved or close family members may have.  The time of year can be a factor as well, for example, summers in New York City are just too hot for whipped cream cakes.

Finally, taste before you book—not all cakes taste as good as they look.
