Here is a list of questions to ask any wedding photographer BEFORE you sign the contract…
Questions supplied by WeddingWire.com
- Answers supplied By Neil Vance, owner of Neil Vance Photography
- Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
Yes, as I sort through the images, each image is given careful consideration. Certain images are enhanced for color and contrast according to my photographic style and others are changed to B&W or toned for artist impact.
- Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
Yes, as you can see in my portfolio… From the brightest beach ceremony at 2pm to the darkest cathedral, I am able to handle challenging lighting situations. I bring the right gear and have a range of experience that enables me to capture every single moment.
- Is your media preference film or digital?
Digital
- How many photographers do you work with on the wedding day?
1 or 2. The photographers I hire to shoot with me are seasoned professionals. Often times they are friends who work as professional photographers for news agencies or have photography studios of their own.
- Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
YES! I wouldn’t miss it!
- Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
Only one per day. On a few occasions, I have shot back to back weddings on a weekend… meaning one on Saturday and one the following day. That is not too common but it can occur.
- Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
This has never happened, but I have associates in the field that I could get to replace me in a dire emergency.
- What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
The best available 35mm digital camera body at 21mp and a wide range of professional lenses as well as on and off-camera flash equipment.
- Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
ALWAYS!
- Do you have liability insurance? Can you provide a $100,000,000 liability rider for my wedding venue.
Yes.
- Do you charge hourly or full day?
I have 6 packages to choose from… each package includes coverage hours ranging from 4 hours to 10 hours.
- Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Yes. $225 per hour primary photog & 2nd photog $65 per hour.
- What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
I’m very flexible on breaks and meals. The flow of the day and the time line of the event dictate if/when breaks occur. As far as meals go… some couples choose to serve the same food as the wedding guests and some do a vendor meal. Either is fine. I’ll usually try to grab a quick bite while the bride and groom are eating.
- Do you charge for travel?
Travel expenses apply for weddings held further than 50 miles from Los Angeles, CA. Some exceptions are made. Please inquire.
- In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Your final images are edited, so they are not proofs. They are delivered digitally – on disc or hard drive and online.
- Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Yes, however clients have full rights.
- Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
That is negotiable.
- Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yes, with certain packages.
- Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes.
- What kind of albums do you offer?
LeatherCraftsman – 10×10 or 12×12 – Flush mounted or Traditional matted albums with a wide range of covers and options to choose from.
- When will the client get the final album?
Delivery.. 4-6 weeks after final design approval.
