Emily and Sean 2009-06-18

OK - so I looooove working with couples. And Emily and Sean are right up as one of my favorites after yesterday : ) They are totally laid back, Emily is totally beautiful (OK - Sean, you're handsome too!) and they are super sweet and tons of fun. We spent about three hours driving around Greene County, hunting covered bridges, chasing the sun and capturing some cool moments. Here are some of my favs of them together! Will post more of them separately later.

And once again, they are proof that couples sessions don't just have to be for the newly engaged. They've been married a long time and have not had photos taken since their wedding...until now! So come on couples - let's have some fun!

The Faces of Summerspace 2009-06-20

Summerspace is a community artist program started by Mike Elsass.

Francine Riley brought her summer program kids to the space to see how artists work and the kids got the chance to tour the space, paint with their feet, and listen to some inspiring work about art.

I am officially an "artist in cahoots" for this project, per Mike. Which really means I help out a little. But one thing I can say for Mike - other than being great at giving people titles, he is amazing at making something out of nothing. Go Big Mike with your Big Ideas!

I had the opportunity to take photos of some of the kids...amazing faces, with amazing stories. Some of the posed, some of them smiled, some of them didn't. But you can see their soul in their eyes. Just...amazing.

To find out more about summerspace and the artists who work there visit http://www.summerspacedayton.blogspot.com/ or contact Mike Elsass at ville777@aol.com

Summer 2009-06-21

One of my favorite things to photograph is women in their wedding dress - before the wedding, right after the wedding, 10 years later - just about any time! I offer a session called "Unbridled" that is a chance for a woman to have a little fun in dress - in a stress-free environment, in creative locations, and in ways that emphasize the natural beauty of each woman.

Summer slipped back into her wedding dress for a session 3 short months after the wedding. And I got some pretty cool shots!

Kiedis @ 3 months 2009-06-25

What could you accomplish in 3 months? Start and finish a project. Maybe renovate a room in your house. Deploy to a foreign country. Tour Europe. Or at least part of Europe. Meet the person of your dreams and fall madly in love and get married (hey, if it's the person of your dreams, why wait?). But whatever you might accomplish in 3 months, it's probably nothing like the miracle of change that comes as a child grows from the first days of life. I am not a mother, so I can only guess from seeing the children of friends through pictures and some personal encounters. But as a photographer I sometimes get the opportunity to watch the growth somewhat more closely. Kiedis is an example. I photographed him several weeks after he was born, and now three months later I can see the changes. The smiles. The faces. The length of his (maybe someday dancer's) legs and arms. And in the way he fits differently into the embrace of his parents. And in the way they are more comfortable holding him then they were a few short months ago. I am very lucky to be able to witness this miracle. And capture it in time.
