The Rancho Buena Vista Adobe is one of the best preserved of the thirty San Diego County land grant ranchos. Originally grazing land claimed by Mission San Luis Rey, the Rancho Buena Vista was deeded to Luiseño Felipe Subria, in 1845 by Mexico’s provisional governor, Pio Pico.
In the 1850s the Rancho was a hub for surrounding ranches and became a center for cultural, economic and social activities for over a century. Rancho owners included prominent settlers of early San Diego: Cave Johnson Couts Sr. and his family, Los Angeles businessman Lorenzo Soto, gold heiress Mrs. Helen Louise Knight, Hollywood film producer Harry Pollard and his wife, Margarita Fischer Pollard, a silent screen star.
Thank you for considering the historic Rancho Buena Vista Adobe for your special event. We welcome you to schedule a tour of the grounds and look forward to answering any questions you may have.
