It’s always fun to see weddings featured by magazines and wedding planning resource websites – very cool to see which images the editors think are cool from the event!
Niki & Tim had a gorgeous wedding, and it’s great to see them at www.weddingsinwinnipeg.com

The Proposal
Tim was at a retro stag, and walked up to me wearing yellow polyester pants, a big collared shirt, a blond mullet, and Aviators… he made me laugh and we hit it off right away. Two years later, he took me hiking around Mt. Robson and knelt down in front of a beautiful glacial lake and proposed. He even had champagne and glasses in his backpack!
What was the best decision you made when planning your wedding?
The best decision we made was to keep our wedding small—we planned an intimate affair with only close friends and family. We didn’t invite extended family that we hadn’t seen for years, because we only wanted people that are a part of our past, present, and future.
What was the most beautiful moment of your day?
Stopping to take pictures at Café 22, where we had our first date. Of course, facing each other as we said our vows was incredible too!
What would you have done differently?
I would have worn boots for the outside pictures. My toes were frozen!
What was the best advice that you were given while planning your day?
Just do what makes you happy!
What was the one thing that created the most stress for you during your planning?
The bridesmaids’ dresses! They only arrived the day before the wedding, and two of the girls had their dresses pinned on!
What words advice would you pass on to couples planning their wedding?
It is your day: don’t worry so much about what will make other people happy!

Living in Vancouver, it’s not easy to fly back to Winnipeg in the winter time! It doesn’t take long to get soft and forget how to deal with the cold
Lucky for me, the weather was really mild in Winnipeg during the weekend of Danielle & Neil’s wedding. But with a mildness in Winnipeg comes sloppiness outside. Not sure which is better…..cold and dry or mild and sloppy.
Not only were we able to get some great shots outside because of the mild weather, but somehow we managed to keep Danielle’s dress from getting overly dirty. Way to go Danielle!!!
I had a great time working with Danielle & Neil, as I knew I would. Thanks guys for having me a part of your day!

For those of you who are new to this blog, you likely didn’t see Danielle & Neil’s engagement video. This video below is their actual engagement – Danielle had no idea that it was coming….it was a surprise that Neil and I set up for her
The other thing to take note of is that I was the only one documenting this. You’ll notice a few camera angles……but there was only one camera man…..just me, making use of clever camerawork.
Also, remember that you can’t re-create the moment of getting engaged, so it had to be done completely live with ONE TAKE.

The Proposal
After 6 and a half years of dating, David finally decided to ask the big question, and he knew just how he was going to do it. Rachele is a devoted Madonna fan, and David chose to incorporate that into his proposal. He surprised Rachele with a weekend getaway to Toronto in 2008 to take in a Madonna show, but the biggest surprise was yet to come. When the concert was over, Rachele realized they had just one day left to spend in Toronto, and asked David if there was anything he wanted to do before leaving. There was… David got down on one knee, took an engagement ring out of his pocket, and asked Rachele to marry him right then and there.
The Wedding
When they started planning, David and Rachele agreed they both wanted a fun and modern wedding, with bright colours and lots of fun. They came up with a palette using two of Rachele’s favourite colours, orange and fuchsia, and added chocolate brown as a sophisticated neutral. Their beautiful ceremony took place in a sectioned-off portion of the Hilton Suites Ballroom, creating a more intimate setting. The smiling bride took in the room as she walked down the aisle, decorated just the way she had dreamed with chocolate brown chair covers and vibrant floral pew arrangements. She met David under a canopy where they exchanged their vows and shared in a hand blessing ceremony, and guests tossed rose petals from fuchsia petal cones the bride, a graphic designer, had designed herself.
The reception was decorated from top to bottom by Madeline’s Weddings. Each table was dressed in brown pin-tucked linens with fuchsia runners, and guests found personalized Jones Soda bottles at their seats along with individual menus created by the bride. The Floral Fixx created centrepieces with enough colour to suit the couple, creating arrangements of orange gerber daisies and fuchsia roses, aspidistra leaves with Konfetti roses, and floating candles. A glamorous head table design used brown and pink table linens, rose petals, and flickering candles, and Madeline’s also used their signature ceiling décor to bring extra character to the ballroom. An elaborate candy buffet was a big hit with guests, with two rectangular tables set on either side of the cake table, filled with candy matching the evening’s colour scheme. A beautiful three-tiered chocolate cake with buttercream filling was framed with chocolate panels and white chocolate drizzles, and Madeline’s placed additional rose petals around the display. A family friend blessed the evening by saying prayers in both English and Italian. Guests ordered their meals table side, enjoying a traditional 6 course Italian meal. During the first dance, Rachele’s sisters told all the guests that they would be doing a traditional money dance, and soon enough, guests started wandering onto the dance floor to pin money onto the newlyweds’ clothing, as a symbol of good fortune and prosperity.
The Fashion
After trying on what felt like hundreds of dresses, Rachele went to Stella’s with a distinct vision of what she was looking for—modern styling with chiffon, and a special something extra she had in mind. She found three dresses, and the third was the perfect one. This Maggie Sottero dress features crystals that sweep across the dress—that special little detail she was longing for. She accessorized it with a veil detailed with crystal trim, and a rhinestoned headband.
“One of the easiest decisions was deciding to work with Madeline’s Weddings & Events. We knew they were the ones who could take our vision and make it a reality. We knew from the moment we met with Madeline that we had made an instant connection. Madeline and her team were there for us every step of the way. We didn’t have to stress over anything, and that was the best part. They knew what we wanted and delivered more than we could ever have imagined. They made the entire day so easy for us.” —Rachele
