Choosing Your Wedding Flowers

So you've decided to get married. Congratulations! Every bride and groom's taste is different, especially when it comes to their flowers.

Nowadays choosing your wedding flowers can sometimes be a difficult task considering there is so many options out there, especially if you can't decide what you would really love to hold while you walk down the aisle and see on your guest's tables, etc. The key is not to stress, and talk to a professional who can guide you through what is available, in season and what colour combinations would compliment or co-ordinate with you and your wedding parties chosen attire. There really is no right or wrong, and you can go towards contemporary or traditional style of a bouquet, it just depends on what type of a feeling you would like to envoke.

A bride can carry all white blooms in her bouquet, or stand out with vibrant hues of one or many colours. It really is your day, and you should carry what makes you happy, and carry something that you will always cherish the memory of and in the future will make you remember your wedding day.

When meeting with a floral designer, ask to see some of her previous work, and ask if she's done a similar event to yours in the past. Make sure to ask about a contract and payment plan. Also make sure to bring any colour swatches and pictures of your dress and your bridal party dresses to help when trying to match colours of fabric with colours of flowers (and be prepared to leave a colour swatch with your floral designer so she can shop for ribbons for the bouquets, etc.) Also bring along any pictures of styles or particular flowers you'd like in your bouquet or centrepieces. It would be helpful if you decide ahead of time who you would like to designate to wear corsages and boutonnieres as well, usually this includes: Parents, Step-parents, grandparents, readers and people saying special speaches or toasts, and of course people in the wedding party.

Just make sure to be honest and specific to what you like and would love to see on your wedding day. A good floral designer can make alternate suggestions if something is out of season. Choosing your flowers is a very important stepping stone along the path to your wedding day. This should be a fun and educational experience for you. Enjoy your planning along the way, and remember to take a moment to 'stop and smell the roses' on your wedding day!

Emma Does it really matter if the bridal bouquet matches the boutonnieres? Fiance wants calla lilies, I want sunflowers, and I don't think they would look that great together, so I suggested we each use the flowers we want, much to my mothers chagrin.

Is it really that "wrong"?
